学校概况：剑桥大学（University of Cambridge）成立于1209年，最早是由一批为躲避殴斗而从牛津大学逃离出来的学者建立的。亨利三世国王在1231年授予剑桥教学垄断权。剑桥大学和牛津大学（University of Oxford）齐名为英国的两所最优秀的大学，被合称为“Oxbridge”。是世界十大学府之一，81位诺贝尔奖得主出自此校。剑桥大学还是英国的名校联盟“罗素集团”（Russell Group of Universities）和欧洲的大学联盟科英布拉集团（Coimbra Group）的成员。现任校长是艾利森·理查德。

剑桥大学有31个学院，有三个女子学院，两个专门的研究生院，各学院历史背景不同，实行独特的学院制，风格各异的35所学院经济上自负盈亏；剑桥大学负责生源规划和教学工作，各学院内部录取步骤各异，每个学院在某种程度上就像一个微型大学，有自己的校规校纪。剑桥大学的第一所学院彼得学院于1284年建立，其他的学院在14和15世纪陆续建立。

剑桥大学实际上只是一个组织松散的学院联合体，各学院高度自治，但是都遵守统一的剑桥大学章程，该章程是由大学的立法结构起草通过的，每年还会修订。剑桥大学只负责考试与学位颁发，而招收学生的具体标准则由各学院自行决定，并自行招生。

课程设置： 一般来说，英国的学制要比美国的短。剑桥大学的本科生一般是三到四年。上完三年，就可得到学士学位；上完四年，下来就是硕士(MA)；如果三年拿到学士学位后就参加工作，一年以后也可以在工作岗位上再交论文，直接申请硕士学位。所以严格说来，剑桥大学没有真正的硕士，硕士学位只是一个过渡。副博士是剑桥和牛津的一个稍具特色的学位，因专业不同，一般是两年，授课一年，论文一年，(经济系为一年的课程加论文)。如果课程的考试成绩(一般是四门课)超过65分，就可直接转为博士，再读两年就可获得博士学位。副博士和硕士的区别有三个：其一，副博士的一年或两年时间是可以计算到博士的时间，而从硕士直读博士，是至少需要三年时间；其二，如果你的最终成绩在65分以上，学校可以为你提供开放的时间，在有效时间内(如两年)，你随时可去上学，再继续你的博士学业；其三，剑桥规定，如果你拿到副博士学位后，工作满一定年限，你也可直接提交申请博士学位的论文，学校根据你的论文质量和工作业绩，可授你博士学位，而硕士则无此殊荣。但由此途径得到博士学位是不太容易的。特色优势 剑桥大学是世界十大学府之一，以优异的教育质量著称于世。历年来有81位诺贝尔奖获得者出自剑桥。剑桥的毕业生遍布政界、商界和学术界。 城市概况 剑桥由12世纪修道士定居于此而诞生。直到剑桥大学成立后，这个城镇的名字才渐为人所知。这个小城连同居民共计10万余人，由剑桥大学各个学院组成，因而具有浓厚的历史气氛。

尽管这里保存了许多中世纪的建筑，但就整个剑桥的外观而言仍是明快而且现代化的。正如其它英国城市一样，剑桥的商业也很繁荣，但仍不失典型的英格兰的田园风光。似乎与城市规模不相称的众多剧场、美术馆、博物馆等设施，更使得这座大学城散发出一股浓浓的文艺气息。 交通概况 剑桥位于伦敦北方，从伦敦King’sCross车站出发搭乘火车需时约1小时，至剑桥站(Cambridge)下车，票价为13.5镑。下站后在车站外的公车站搭乘3号公车至EmmanuelStreet即可抵达市中心，车资为85P。

伦敦出发往剑桥最早班车为上午6:06，平均每小时有两班，从7:45起每半小时一班，最晚班为20:51。剑桥回伦敦火车班次从6:32至20:27，也是大约30分钟一班，周末班次与平日略有不同。
